Dennis (Denny) Dean Sonnabend, age 83 of Amboy, passed away on Saturday, January, 4th at Mapleton Community Home. Memorial services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday January, 18th at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Vernon Center. Visitation will be held from 9:30-12:00 p.m., prior to the service. Private family burial will take place at Basey Cemetery.
Denny was born on August 13, 1941 in Vernon Center Township to Eric (Jack) Sonnabend and Leona (Franke). He attended and graduated from Amboy School then went on to attend Vo-Tech in Mankato. On January 23, 1965, Denny married the love of his life, Janice Arlene Stordahl at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Willow Creek. They raised two children, Dean and Kari and farmed together raising crops and hogs for over 50 years.
After school, Denny served his country in the United States Marines achieving the rank of Sergeant. He was still active in his community by serving in the Amboy Lion's Club, American Legion #276 and being an honor guard member.
He was very involved in his community and never missed an opportunity to spend time with family or friends. Denny had many pastimes, his favorites included traveling and camping in the motor home with Jannie, playing cards with friends, tending to his yard and driving his gator, reading many books and above all cheering on his grandkids at their many sporting events over the years.
Left to cherish his memory is his son, Dean (Tammy) of Vernon Center; daughter, Kari (John) Healy of Mapleton; grandchildren, Brittany (Tyler) Miller, Joshua (Paula) Sonnabend, Rachel Sonnabend, Carson Healy, and Eli Healy; great grandchildren, Olivia, Madison and Ella Miller; and his sister Beverly Sonnabend.
He is preceded in death by his beloved bride Janice, his siblings Jerry, Bob and Marilyn.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Amboy Lion's Club.
