AN ORDINANCE PERTAINING TO THE DISCHARGE OF FIREARMS WITHIN CITY
LIMITS
Sect. 1 Definitions. As used herein, the term "firearm" shall mean any gun, pistol, rifle, revolver, or other firearm, or any air rifle, BB-gun, paintball gun, or other device for the propulsion of an object by means of compressed gas or mechanical spring.
Sect. 2 Prohibited Acts. It is unlawful for any person to:
a. fire or discharge a firearm within the City limits.
b. intentionally point a firearm at or toward another human being.
c. sell or possess any device designed to silence or muffle the discharge of a firearm.
d. furnish a minor under eighteen (18) years of age with a firearm without the written
consent of his or her parents or guardians.
Sect. 3 Exceptions. Nothing within Section 2 shall apply to:
a. discharge of a firearm at an indoor firing range approved by the City Council in
writing to operate within the City limits.
b. a peace officer in the lawful discharge of his or her duty, or any other person
otherwise lawfully permitted by proper federal, state, or local authorities to discharge a firearm; or
C. a person in the lawful defense of his or her person or family.
Sect. 4 Reckless Handling of Firearms. Notwithstanding any other Section herein, it shall be unlawful for any person to recklessly handle any firearm so as to endanger the safety of another.
Sect. 5 Penalty. Violation of any Section or Subsection herein shall be punished as a misdemeanor.
