Federal Emergency Management Agency to Visit Blue Earth County

Beginning Thursday, July 11, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will be in Blue Earth County and visiting various properties throughout cities and townships, specifically those that completed a Property Damage Report, as part of their preliminary assessment of flood and rain damage. The preliminary assessments will assist in determining potential eligibility of Individual Assistance (IA) for residents of Blue Earth County. Any Blue Earth County or FEMA representative should be able to provide proper identification when asked and will likely be wearing an identifying shirt or vest.

Blue Earth County is one of 22 Minnesota counties included in a Federal Disaster Declaration issued June 28, 2024. Individual Assistance (IA) is a program provided by FEMA to eligible individuals and households who have sustained losses due to a disaster that received a federal declaration. The program offers financial assistance and direct services to assist with uninsured and underinsured necessary expenses and serious needs, but it is not a substitute for insurance. Residents should be aware that these teams are completing preliminary assessments, and that IA has not officially been awarded.

FEMA will be visible as they are visiting hundreds of properties in Blue Earth County. Please understand that if they do not visit your home or neighborhood, it doesn’t mean that your area is excluded from consideration. Due to time constraints, focus will be placed on the heaviest damaged areas. Blue Earth County encourages residents to interact with FEMA to share their stories and experiences of the flood and damage they have incurred. These experiences will help aid the narrative of the widespread need our county has for assistance.

If residents have experienced damage and have not completed a property damage report, they are encouraged to do so at www.blueearthcountymn.gov.propertydamage.
